September 2014 – Ontario’s existing Lake Capacity Model (LCM), which is based primarily on in-water phosphorus targets, was officially released as planning guidance in 2010. For a variety of reasons it has limited practical applicability for much of Ontario’s lake geography.

Research into potential future approaches to determining the development capacity (or limits to growth) on Ontario lakes is underway.

Potential reprieve for the ELA

Big news day! FOCA reacts to the announcement of a potential reprieve for the ELA. Read the news release:

April 24, 2013 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Peterborough, ON - The Federation of Ontario Cottagers' Associations (FOCA) is cautiously enthusiastic today, upon news that the Province of Ontario and the Province of Manitoba have committed to keep the Experimental Lakes Area (ELA) open through a proposed collaboration with the federal government, the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and other partners.
