VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE SS KEEWATIN

They are making good progress on fixing up the Keewatin. If you have the time and are in the area they are looking for volunteers to help

News Fast and Furious..VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
http://bit.ly/Xkyn6r http://drone-on.com/

If you live near Port McNicoll or can get here this message is directed at you!  It has been a very cold winter and that has caused us several problems. As there is no heat on Keewatin, so the number of days that volunteers can spend meaningful time has been limited. The engine room ( Bilge Rats) have been stellar in showing up every Monday and they have made some great achievements in cleaning and adjusting our quadruple expansion steam engine.

Lot's of great Photo's are shown on the page liked to...

How to protect wildlife in spring

How to protect wildlife in spring

With spring on the way, your chance of spotting wildlife, particularly baby animals, is sure to go up. For the Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, a registered charity that treats and cares for injured or orphaned wild animals and turtles, spring brings many more visitors to their door. Still, that doesn’t mean all young animals left alone need rescuing.

Water-level concerns to be discussed March 26

We have observed drastic changes with lower water levels in the Great Lakes, especially in Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

We will discuss these changes, and how they affect both indigenous and non-indigenous people, at a Couchiching Conversation gathering March 26 at the Midland library beginning at 7 p.m.

Keewatin Documentary mini-teaser

Watch a 60 second preview of the one-hour television documentary "Bring Her on Home - The return of the SS Keewatin".

The documentary chronicles the months and years of planning that led up to her eventual repatriation to Port McNicoll, Ontario on June 23rd 2012 - a risky, complex and eventful journey. The documentary is now in the final stages of post-production and will be ready for broadcast in the summer of 2013. Go to: www.sskeewatin.com for air dates to be announced.

History: The SS Keewatin was built in 1907, 5 years before the Titanic, in Clyde, Scotland and she's the last surviving luxury passenger ship from that era and shares many of the Titanic's design cues. The Keewatin and her sister ship, the SS Assiniboia, plied the great lakes for over five decades and were instrumental in opening up Canada's west. Retired in 1965, she's been lovingly preserved and maintained by RJ and Diane Peterson in Saugatuk/Douglas, Michigan until June 2012. The SS Keewatin is the last of her kind anywhere in the world.

POLICE INFORM PUBLIC OF INTERNET TOOL

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to inform the public of a valuable internet tool available to them.

There are three search fields available on the website. Users can search Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) on automobiles, trucks, vans, motorcycles, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, farm vehicles, heavy equipment vehicles, and trailers. Licence plate numbers and bicycle serial numbers can also be searched.

Habitat in the 'life changing business'

Habitat in the 'life changing business'

Peter Ridout and thousands of Canadians like him help change lives — one family at a time.

As build chair of Habitat for Humanity North Simcoe, Ridout oversaw the completion in December of a three-bedroom house on Peel Street that Lisa and her two daughters now call home in a neighbourhood where people care.

“We are not in the house-building business,” said Ridout. “We are in the life-changing business.”
