Stop the Drop update

Stop the Drop
With your help we accomplished something extraordinary. You and 20,480 other lake users “showed up” because you understood how important it is to have your voice heard.

Now that Labour Day is past, what’s next?

Because of Stop the Drop’s high profile in the press, and because we’ve grown so quickly, politicians and other leaders want to know who we all are. And we want to tell them.
In October and November, we’ll present to 18 municipalities, 5 MPPs and 5 MPs all around the Bay. We’ll communicate individually with MPs and MPPs in ridings away from the Bay where our members live/vote (Oakville, London, Newmarket, Ottawa, Toronto, etc.). And we’ll meet with groups that also represent our members – campers, anglers & hunters, farmers, recreational boaters, and others.
All to make sure your voice – our collective voice - is heard. We’ll report back to you about progress next month so you’re in the loop.
Building a Common Understanding **Your Action Opportunity**

With the Stop the Drop community growing so quickly, developing a common foundation for all members is critical. So you and every other member is on the same page. That’s why we produced articles called Water Levels 101, 102 and 103.

  1. On April 15th of this year, the International Joint Commission advised the Federal Government to take specific actions to address low water levels in Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. 7 months have passed and Government has not responded. Despite the very wet summer, Lake Huron is still 35 cms below its long-term seasonal average - while every other Great Lake is at or above its averages, and inland lakes are flooding. All this rain has not fixed the problem. If you are concerned by the Government's lack of response, we wanted to let you know that Stop The Drop has created a tool that makes the process of communicating with your MP easy, and only takes a minute.

800 Georgian Bay users have used this tool in the past week, and have ended up reaching 80+ Members of Parliament (all over Ontario, even Canada) who had never heard before about the low water level issue. Each Bay user lives and votes in the MP's riding. This leads each MP and their office to contact the minister in charge to see what is being done. The goal is to have as many individuals that care as possible communicate with their MP, including each member of the family sending separate emails... This helps turn the issue from a "Georgian Bay problem" into an Ontario-wide issue.

This is your chance to be heard by the politician you vote for, about a place you really care about. If you haven't acted already, simply click here and follow directions.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. We simply want to help folks, if they care, to have their voices heard.
